Renewable Energy 2030

I studied subjects related to renewable energy for many years. Yet, I have never touched a windmill, installed a solar panel, or smelled any biodiesel. While studying I did learn about the technical and economic feasibility of different renewable energy technologies.

With this knowledge I can now say with confidence that “the world can fully rely on renewables for its energy needs within a decade”.

So why is this not happening, what is so difficult?

It is not improvement in technology anymore which is hindering renewable energy from truly taking off. Now it is just a matter of more people to believe that renewable energy is possible, profitable and necessary.

When more people will start believing in renewable energy, automatically investment flows will shift: from companies extracting resources which took the earth millions of years to create (oil/coal/gas) to the renewable energy leaders of this time.

During my bicycle trip I want to meet other people who believe that renewable energy is possible, profitable and necessary, speak with them and learn from them. I want to share my learnings by means of this blog, seminars and workshops.

Opportunistic as I am I will be the first person to try to cycle from the North Cape to the Cape of Good Hope on an electric bicycle. I know that I will not be able to plug my bicycle into sources of renewable energy everywhere along the way. Yet, I hope this will be possible when my (unborn) son or daughter would make the same trip…
